Designated Emphasis in Healthcare Leadership

The UC Riverside School of Medicine Healthcare Leadership Program is a cohort-based, four-year designated emphasis program that equips UCR medical students with the foundational knowledge and essential leadership skills necessary to becoming healthcare system leaders, including deans, CEOs, and CMOs.
Students will gain an understanding of leadership roles within the healthcare system, develop their leadership and communication skills, network with mentors and leaders, and eventually propose and lead their own projects. Through workshops, community engagement, and project-based learning, the Healthcare Leadership Program will offer essential learning opportunities and foster valuable professional connections, ultimately preparing students for leadership roles in medicine.
Any student is welcome to apply. Fifteen students per year will be accepted into the program. Students must complete a total of 300 hours of contact time divided up through the four years of medical school. Upon successful completion of all four years, students will be given distinction on their Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE).

Course Goals

- Build social capital through relationship building, networking, and community engagement.
- Practice hands-on leadership skills by developing, proposing, and publishing/presenting a final project.
